About me

Me

This blog narrates the adventures and discoveries of Jonas Lembrechts, a Belgian PhD-student with a passion for nature, writing and photography. Within the framework of a PhD on mountain ecology at the University of Antwerp, all these passions can be combined into a daily, exciting adventure.

I am a plant ecologist, which means I study the interactions between plants and their environment. I am especially interested in the effects of us, humans, on mountain vegetation, and how plant species manage to change their location rapidly (or not) to adapt to these effects. An important part of this research involves the study of the negative effects of invasive species, plants that follow humans from elsewhere to invade the undisturbed nature in the mountains.

As a mountain ecologist, my research involves a lot of adventures all over the world. From Belgium to Lapland or Patagonia, everywhere my work brings me, I try to catch the beauty of the world I am studying. This blog wants to narrate my adventures, yet I will always aim at  raising awareness about the importance of ecological sciences in this changing world.

This blog thus serves as a unique combination of travel adventures and scientific communication. You can see me as a photographing ecologist: the pictures and personal stories provide the background for information over ecology, invasive species and the interesting biology of mountains. I strongly believe in the importance of my work and the communication of it to a non-scientific public, which I try to make an interesting read for everyone, with the help of photography.

Thanks for your kind words! No problem for the award, for us rather than awarding blogs it was much more an opportunity to discover new blogs and connect to other bloggers which is happening right now as we are writing to each other so…goal achieved!:)

    Merhaba Jonas…

Here’s a little New Years message from Türkiye to say “thank you”. I appreciate your recent ‘follow’, knowing how many interesting and entertaining blogs there are out there.

Blogging since June 2013, my little corner of the world tries to offer an eclectic smattering of posts, from basic amateur photography, to sharing my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day-to-day happenings here on our fruit farm in southern Turkey. I also throw in a few of my observations on life and lighter-hearted stuff for good measure.

You are more than welcome to have a look around, stay a while and have a trawl through my collection. There are plenty of categories within the drop-down menus to help in said digging process. Of course, if you have any comments, suggestions or concerns, feel free to let me know – I’m not easily offended 🙂

Hope you have a great day and even better 2015…
